Privacy Policy
RGB Sunglasses companion app
Effective date: July 15, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how the RGB Sunglasses companion app ("the app", "we", "us") handles information. The app lets you connect to and control RGB Sunglasses hardware over Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) — adjusting colors, animations, and settings, and updating the device's firmware.
Information we collect
We do not collect any personal information. The app has no sign-up, no login, and no user accounts. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, or location. We do not build any profile of you.
The controls you use in the app (colors, animation parameters, on/off toggles, and text labels) are sent directly to your sunglasses over Bluetooth. They are not collected by us or sent to any server.
Device permissions and why we request them
- Bluetooth (scan & connect): Required to find your sunglasses and communicate with them. This is the app's core function.
- Location (Android only): Android requires apps to hold the location permission in order to scan for nearby Bluetooth devices. The app uses this permission solely to enable Bluetooth scanning. The app does not access, use, or transmit your geographic location, and it contains no location-tracking code.
- Install unknown apps (Android only, non-Google-Play builds): Used only to install an app update you have downloaded from our GitHub Releases page. This permission is removed from the Google Play version of the app, which is updated through Google Play instead.
Data stored on your device
The app does not maintain a database of your data. The only files it writes are temporary firmware and app-update download files placed in the operating system's cache directory, which the OS can reclaim at any time. No usage history, credentials, or personal data is stored.
Network activity and third parties
The app's only network requests are to GitHub (the public GitHub API and GitHub Releases), used to:
- check whether newer firmware is available for your sunglasses and download it so you can update the device, and
- on non-Google-Play builds, check for and download app updates.
These requests do not include your name, account, or any personal identifier — the app has none to send. However, as with any internet request, GitHub's servers receive the request, including your device's IP address, and handle it under GitHub's Privacy Statement. No other third parties receive any data from the app.
The app's own self-update (installing a downloaded APK) is disabled on iOS and in Google Play builds; the firmware-update feature for your sunglasses remains available in all builds.
Analytics, advertising, and tracking
The app contains no analytics, crash-reporting, advertising, or tracking software of any kind. We do not use any advertising identifier and we do not track your activity across apps or websites.
Data sharing and selling
We do not sell or share personal data. There is no personal data to sell or share.
Children's privacy
The app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles information, we will update this policy and revise the effective date above. Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
